  • I think some amendments need to be made this wiki's policy on page notability, or at least clarifications anyway. The biggest question is should people be allowed to make pages about themselves?

Personally I think there are some ways in which either way would make sense.

If you writing a page on yourself there is an incentive to make a good quality page. In addition you probably have an exact knowledge of your filmography and probably are easily able to link to references about yourself.

Although, on the other hand there will be some inevitable bias when writing about yourself - however I do not think this is actually that big of an issue, if there's bias another wiki contributor will, no doubt, quickly deal with it. The main problem I see with allowing this is that it is likely people will end up writing their own page in a decent manner and then leaving the wiki to never contribute again.

If we do allow people to make their own pages, I think it rather unfair to instantly mark the page with the {{notability}} template. Perhaps a contributor should be given at least a week to work on the page before a notability template can added? For this week new pages could have a {{newpage}} template that to remind the contributor what they need to do within the week to ensure their page is not later marked with {{issues}} or {{notability}}.

Overall, I think if a page meets the formatting guidelines, has several decent references and is unbiased it should exist despite whoever creates it. What does everyone else think?

After some discussion I will start a formal vote on this question.

    • I have some concerns about self-promotion and a conflict of interests if someone is allowed to make a page about themselves. I think it would be absolutely fine for someone to extensively edit and improve a page about themselves, as long as the page is properly cited and sourced, but having a contributor focus on making a page about themselves, possibily without contributing anything else to the wiki first, smacks of self-promition to me.

    • I think that if a person is notable, a page will probably be created for them. Of course, there are so many people that are notable, that they cannot all be covered, so a suggestion could be made to an admin. However, most people will not create a page for themselves unless they are trying to promote their own brickfilms. User pages are made to promote yourself. Mainspace pages for made for information.

    • I think Nathan hit the nail on the head. If allowed, it would be too easy to show up just for your own promotion and glory and then leave, and I don't think we want to open up that possibilty. However, I wouldn't mind so much if somebody had already been red-linked a couple of times on the wiki and they decided to make a page on themselves because of that. Also, of course, I agree that people editing an existing page on themselves is perfectly fine, as long as they provide sources.

    • From reading all of your opinions I think that it should be policy that you cannot start a page about yourself but you can suggest someone else does and you can edit a page about yourself if one already exists.

In addition you can self promote as much as you like on your user page.

    • I agree entirely.

    • Voting

It seems all that needs to be discussed has been with a general consensus. Although just make sure there's no doubt I will begin a 2 day long voting period on the proposal:
Users should not be allowed to create a new 'brickfilmer' article that is about themselves. They may however edit one that already exists.

Respond: Respond with either AGREE or DISAGREE in capitals. Then on a new line write your reasons.

Though I still feel an exception could be made if there is proven demand for the page through red links.

    • A decision has been reached.

The voting period has ended and there were in total:

      • 3 votes agreeing with the proposal.
      • 0 votes disagreeing with the proposal.
As a result this proposal was passed.

As a result the wiki's policies will be amended to say that people in most circumstancss cannot create brickfilmer pages about themselves.
