Major brickfilming events in the 1980's

  • 1986/7: The LEGO Group commissions the creation of the series best known as LEGO Sport Champions, and this series receives VHS releases in multiple countries in the 1980s and 1990s.
  • 1987/8: Edward and Friends, a children's TV series based on the LEGO Fabuland theme, airs in Britain and Canada. However, it is created with claymation; not LEGO.
  • 1989: The Magic Portal, an Australian student film, is completed. Its run of international film festivals is blocked by The LEGO Group, but the film does manage to be shown on Australian TV. The Magic Portal goes on to become quite well known starting in the 2000s, and it is eventually referenced in The LEGO Movie (2014).
  • 1989: Oh Well, the first film in the Biff and Mario series, is created. This series would go on to become the longest running in brickfilming, with a span of over 30 years.
