2001: A LEGO Odyssey is a 2001 epic brickfilm by Marc Atkin.[1] It is both an homage to the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey and to the LEGO building toy and spans several eras of space and time and all in between.[2][3]

Plot[]

The Dawn of LEGO: In a prehistoric wilderness, an early human is hunting when he comes across a black monolith. At the base of the monolith are a pile of basic LEGO bricks. The early human smiles, sits down, and begins to play with the LEGO. He throws a red 2x4 brick into the air.

LEGO 1980: A car drives by a quaint house. A woman enters the house and discovers a black monolith in her living room. At the base of the monolith are more complex LEGO bricks: slopes, wheels and gears. The woman smiles, sits down, and begins to play with the LEGO. She throws a hinge piece into the air.

LEGO Today: A spaceship lands on the moon. An astronaut approaches a black monolith. At the base of the monolith is a single molded rock piece. The astronaut frowns.

LEGO Beyond the Infinite: A bright light rises above the monolith on the moon. The astronaut is pulled through a vortex of colorful LEGO bricks. The astronaut, now in a white room, looks at the monolith. The monolith transforms into the RCX programmable brick from the LEGO Mindstorms line, and then into a red 2x4 brick. As the music swells, the red 2x4 brick spins in space.[2]
